Get started with your first Moonstone vault

Moonstone is designed to feel quiet on day one. You can start from an empty vault, import Markdown, or connect an existing folder through Bridge Mode.

Choose your starting point

If you want the smoothest first run, begin with Moonstone Cloud and let the app create a clean vault for you.

If you already keep notes in Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive, Bridge Mode lets you open that structure in place instead of rebuilding it from scratch.

  • Moonstone Cloud for a fully managed vault
  • Bridge Mode for provider-backed folders you already trust
  • Markdown import when you are moving in from another PKM flow

Create a note that can grow with you

Notes in Moonstone stay Markdown-first. The title comes from the file path, so your vault stays portable and legible outside the app too.

Start with one concept per note. Give it a clear filename, add a few links, and let the structure become denser over time.

Build your first web of context

The real payoff appears when a note is not alone anymore. Add links to related ideas, tag the notes you revisit often, and use backlinks to see where a concept keeps resurfacing.

  • Use wikilinks to connect notes without leaving the editor
  • Use tags when you want lightweight, flexible clusters
  • Use graph view when you want to see structure rather than search for a single file
